Out of 568 people who have signed up for Round 4 of 90days, 81 people checked in for Week 9. Let’s take a look at how things have changed for us since the start of the round.

Overall weight distribution

Here’s the initial weight distribution of everyone who signed up originally and those who have checked in for Weeks 1 through 9:

And if we look at only the people who have checked in for Week 9, we get:

(lbs) (kg)
Avg Std Avg Std
Week 0 212.4 51.1 96.3 23.2
Week 1 209.7 49.8 95.1 22.6
Week 2 209.0 48.4 94.8 22.0
Week 3 208.9 49.3 94.8 22.4
Week 4 208.8 48.6 94.7 22.0
Week 5 206.7 47.5 93.7 21.5
Week 6 204.8 47.1 92.9 21.3
Week 7 204.3 46.7 92.7 21.2
Week 8 204.6 45.7 92.8 20.7
Week 9 202.1 45.6 91.7 20.7

We’ve lost an average of 10.3 lbs (4.7 kg) per person since the start of the round. The 81 people who checked in this week have lost a total of 836 lbs (379 kg)! (For comparison, a rule of thumb for a healthy weight loss rate is 1-2 lbs (0.45-0.91 kg) per week, which would be 9-18 lbs (4.08-8.16 kg) for eight weeks of progress. So we’re still on track as a group!)

Fitting our weights to a normal distribution, it’s a little easier to see the shift in our group weight:

Weight distribution by gender

Let’s break it down by gender again. Looking at only the people who checked in for Week 8, there were 42 women and 36 men (plus 3 with an unknown gender).

The weight distributions for both genders are shown below.

Women

Women have lost an average of 8.3 lbs (3.8 kg) each since the start of the round, for a total of 349 lbs (158 kg) lost for these 42 women!

Men

Men have lost an average of 12.9 lbs (5.9 kg) each since the start of the round, or a total of 466 lbs (211 kg) lost for these 36 men!

Distribution of weight change

Here’s the distribution of weight change since the start of the round for everyone who checked in.

Are any diets or exercises doing better than others?

On the sign-up form, there was a page of optional questions about which types of diets or exercises we were planning on following. This data isn’t necessarily very accurate, because there is no guarantee that a person actually follows the diet or exercise that they said they would. Plus, the questions were optional, so not everyone answered them. Still, it’s fun to look at some of the info that we can get from this.

Who’s still with us?

On the following plots, the number of people who checked in for Week 9 are compared with the number of people who selected a category on the initial signup form. The plots are ordered by percentage of people retained. For example, of the 219 people who listed their goal as “improve body measurements,” 45 people checked in, so 21% are still here.
